I think that for the most part my Summer Jamz mix is pretty self explanatory. There aren’t very many surprises, and for the most part I think that just about anyone could relate to the selections.
Some songs of note: “Teardrop” by Massive Attack is definitely the “standing at a cliff while looking at the sunset, pondering what the fuck your life means” song of the group. “Pinball Wizard” by The Who was a song I was obsessed with the summer I learned how to play the guitar. For some reason I’m not that much better. “You Wreck Me” by Tom Petty is sort of a guilty pleasure. By no means am I in league with the Bonaroo-Stoner Kid-Sandle wearing crowd that digs Tom Petty, nor am I in the working class/blue collar “fuckin rocknroll man, Tom Petty rules” crowd, but it’s just a catchy song. Let it be.
Oh yeah, Technotronic is on this too, isn’t it? That might have been sort of a joke. Kind of. Wreckx-N-Effect? No joke at all, that song freaking rules. It’s been stuck in my head ever since I put this mix together.
Also, for those that don’t know, Tight Bros From Way Back When was a kick ass comprising of members of Karp, Behead the Prophet, No Lord Shall Live, and the Mukilteo Faries. This song is from their first 7″, and it makes me think of shaking your booty in amazing dive bars.
Oh, and C&C Music Factory? That’s 6th grade for me, baby. Love it. Here’s the Track List:
- C&C Music Factory – Gonna Make You Sweat
- Cracker – Shake Some Action
- MC Hammer – U Can’t Touch This
- The B-52’s – Roam
- Massive Attack – Teardrop
- Michael Jackson – Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough
- Prince – When Doves Cry
- The Who – Pinball Wizard
- Technotronic – Move This
- Tom Petty – You Wreck Me
- The Temptations – Ain’t Too Proud to Beg
- Presidents of the United States of America – Lump
- Digital Underground – The Humpty Dance
- Tight Bros From Way Back When – I’m In Luck
- A Tribe Called Quest – Scenario
- Ugly Kid Joe – Everything About You
- Wreckx-N-Effect – Rump Shaker
I created a digital mix tape where you can stream the entire mix in it’s entirety. No need to wait for downloads, dealing with iTunes (which is terrible, by the way) or worrying about the legalities of trading music. We want this site and club to live on forever, don’t we?

There is not a person in the entire world that does not appreciate the genius of The Humpty Dance.
You know you sing along with the bass line when Humpty does too.

Pinball Wizard is genius for this mix! And let’s have no excuses for any music that appears… Tom Petty or not.
